From 25 to 27 September 2025, the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at Maxim Tank Belarusian State Pedagogical University hosted the 44th International Scientific Seminar for Mathematics and Computer Science Teachers at Universities and Teacher-Training Institutions: “Creativity of University and School Students in Mathematics and Computer Science, and Methods of Developing It”.
The seminar was founded in 1987 by Alexander Grigoryevich Mordkovich, a doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor and Honoured Scientist of the Russian Federation. For more than three decades it was held in different cities of the USSR and Russia; Minsk marked its first meeting outside Russia. Its geography is extensive: from Bryansk and Smolensk in the west to Ulan-Ude in the east, and from Syktyvkar in the north to Orsk in the south.
The Minsk seminar brought together 205 participants from Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Scholars and practitioners represented 62 universities, 16 secondary education institutions and research centres.
Participants included 25 doctors and 55 candidates of sciences. The Russian delegation was the largest, with 88 specialists in physics, mathematics and information technology education. Over three days, 97 presentations addressed digitalisation, teaching methods, and the organisation of research activities for school and university students.
On 25 September, the university’s rector, Alexander Ivanovich Zhuk, opened the seminar. A special moment was the online greeting from its founder, Professor A. G. Mordkovich, who turned 85 this year. Participants congratulated their leader on his anniversary and thanked him for his contribution to mathematics education.
The programme included foundational lectures, practical workshops and section discussions, providing broad opportunities to exchange experience: from modelling students’ research activity to integrating artificial intelligence technologies and developing the olympiad movement.
Mansur Fayzrakhmanovich Gilmullin of Yelabuga, author of the Mathematics with Mansur-abyy blog, delivered “From the History of Algebra: Materials for Students’ Creative Work”.
The cultural programme included a sightseeing tour of the Old Town, a performance of Juno and Avos at the Belarusian State Academic Musical Theatre, and a visit to the Khatyn State Memorial Complex.
The organisers noted that holding the seminar in Minsk strengthens ties between educational schools of thought in different countries.
